AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary
closing of certain portions of public streets on Saturday, July 19, 2025,
from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the RipRoar Waukee Youth Triathlon
event
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: On February 18, 2025, the Waukee City
Council approved certain temporary street closings, including a portion
of T Avenue/NW 20th Street near the Waukee Public Safety Facility, to
accommodate a youth triathlon in and around the Trailridge School
property.
The event organizers hope to contain the street closings to those areas
nearer the Trailridge School property; however, in the event that the
school parking lot and surrounding areas are under construction on the
date of the event, organizers would like the option of using T
Avenue/NW 20th Street.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and
grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 2025-
APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PORTIONS OF PUBLIC
STREETS ON SATURDAY, JULY 19, 2025, FROM 7:30 A.M. TO 12:00 P.M. FOR THE
RIPROAR WAUKEE YOUTH TRIATHLON EVENT (AMENDED)
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County;
AND,
WHEREAS, RipRoar Events will host a youth triathlon event in Waukee on Saturday, July 19,
2025, and requests the temporary closing of certain public streets beginning 7:30 a.m. and ending
12:00 p.m. on the date of the event; AND,
WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by
resolution; AND,
WHEREAS, on February 18, 2025, the Waukee City Council approved the temporary closing of
certain portions of public streets for the RipRoar Waukee Youth Triathlon Event (Resolution
#2025-083); AND,
WHEREAS, RipRoar Events requests an amendment to the approved public street closures to
allow the optional closure of a portion of T Avenue/NW 20th Street during the event;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
3rd day of March, 2025, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of NW Douglas Parkway
from NW Stratford Drive west to T Avenue/NW 20th Street; NW Georgetown Drive from NW
Douglas Parkway north 950 feet; and an optional temporary closing of T Avenue/NW 20th Street
from NW Douglas Parkway south 650 feet, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on
Saturday, July 19, 2025.
