AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: March 17, 2025 AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution allowing for Temporary Parking Area [Holmes Murphy] FORMAT: Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Staff has received a request from Tom Stewart, President of Holmes Murphy, to allow for temporary parking on a gravel surface on property that Holmes Murphy owns east of their office building located at 2727 Grand Prairie Parkway. The purpose of the request would be to ease some of the parking congestion that occurs during the summer months when Holmes Murphy employes more than 80 interns in addition to their normal staff. The attached site plan identifies a total of 93 temporary spaces on a gravel surface. The proposal would be to install the parking area in mid-April 2025 and remove it by the end of September 2025. Holmes Murphy would be required to hydro seed the disturbed area upon removal of the parking area. The City Code requires all parking of vehicles to occur on a hard surfaced lot. The subject property is vacant and is designated for future development. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff is supportive of the proposed request on a temporary basis not to exceed 180 days from date of installation of the gravel parking area.
