\AGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: April 21, 2025 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of Change Order No. 12 (Combined) for the Waukee Public Safety Building Project, increasing the contract in the amount of $63,250.02 FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON:Change Order No. 12 relates to several minor items as construction continues on the new Public Safety Building and nears completion. The largest of the change orders this month relates to acoustical issues within the police locker rooms due to the space also functioning as a storm shelter. The solution is to add acoustical tiles to the ceiling of the two locker rooms at a cost of $16,720. The other major expense relates to antennas and other equipment related to radio transmission for both the police and fire departments. The change order includes several pathways as well as roof work necessary to complete the installation of the antennas in the the amount of $23,104.76. There are also a number of other minor changes that have come up as completion nears on the project. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:The net result of this Change Order increases the contract price in the amount of $63,250.02. In total, there have been 12 change orders for $318,646.00 to date which is approximately 20.9% of the total contingency budget. Proposed Solution •Our proposed solution is to install 3/8" Drywall over the currently installed drywall to cover up these horizontal gaps that stretch across the entirety of the room at this elevation. Pendant speakers will need grommets cut in, in-ceiling speakers (sonance ps-c83rt) will need cut into the ceiling and the Shure mics which have a schedule note #8 on AV201 to flush mount in ceiling with finished look. The M2 mic is a round 26" diameter and has no trim kit available but does have suspension and direct to ceiling brackets available. We need to coordinate with HSI on cutting ceiling prior to ceiling installation and need a decision on how exactly they want the round mics to look in or on the wood ceilings. Currently I don't recommend flush mounting the mic into the ceiling but either suspend it or use a ceiling bracket.
