SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: A sewer rate increase to the minimum monthly charge
and the sewer usage rate in excess of the minimum (1,000 gallons) is included in the FY2025 budget
as proposed for consideration for approval by the City Council. These rates will go into effect July 1,
2025.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: An increase of 1% to the existing
sanitary sewer rates is recommended. This is an increase to the minimum charge of $0.16 ($15.94 to
$16.10) for the first 1,000 gallons of water usage, and an increase of $0.12 ($12.04 to $12.16) to water
usage in excess of the minimum (1,000 gallons).

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 98, SEWER SERVICE CHARGES, CITY OF
WAUKEE, IOWA MUNICIPAL CODE, BY AMENDING SECTION 98.01, SEWER
SERVICE CHARGES REQUIRED AS SPECIFIED BELOW:
WHEREAS, the annual review of sanitary sewer rates by the City of Waukee has
determined the following changes to the rates for sanitary sewer usage are necessary.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Waukee:
Section 1. Chapter 98, Waukee Municipal Code, Section 98.01, Sewer Service Charges
Required, are hereby repealed and enacted in lieu thereof is as follows:
§98.01 Sewer Service Charges Required.
Every customer shall pay to the City sewer service fees for the use of and for the
service supplied by the municipal sanitary sewer system based upon the amount
of water consumed as follows:
1.Beginning July 1, 2025, a minimum charge of $16.10 shall be charged for
zero to 1,000 gallons of metered water usage per month.
2.Beginning July 1, 2025, water usage in excess of the minimum (1,000
gallons) will be charged at a rate of $12.16 per 1,000 gallons per month.
3.The rate shall be paid at the time payment of the water bill is due and
under the same conditions beginning with the next payment after
connection to the sewer system is made.
Section 2. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions
of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. Severability Clause. If any section, provision or part of this ordinance shall
be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the
ordinance as a whole or any section, provisions or part thereof not adjudged invalid or
unconstitutional.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect on July 1, 2025 after its
final passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
