AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of an ordinance to amend Chapter 65, Stop or Yield
Required, City of Waukee, Iowa, by amending Section 65.01, Through
Streets; Stop Intersections; and by amending Section 65.03, Four-Way Stop
Intersections [second, third (final) readings]

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The Code of Iowa requires a vote of not less than three-
fourths of all the members of the council (or 4 out of 5, in Waukee’s case) in
order to waive readings of an ordinance.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the second reading of the ordinance in title only, waive the third
reading and place the ordinance on final passage.

ORDINANCE NO. ___
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 65, STOP OR YIELD REQUIRED, CITY OF
WAUKEE, IOWA, BY AMENDING SECTION 65.01, THROUGH STREETS; STOP
INTERSECTIONS; AND BY AMENDING SECTION 65.03, FOUR-WAY STOP
INTERSECTIONS AS SPECIFIED BELOW
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee has determined that amendments to certain through streets
and stop intersections should be made to the existing list of through streets in the ordinance.
BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Waukee:
Section 1. Chapter 65, Waukee Municipal Code, Section 65.01, Through Streets; Stop
Intersections, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraphs in Section 65.01, Through
Streets; Stop Intersections as follows:
§65.01 Through Streets; Stop Intersections
107. NE Westgate Drive from East Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to the south
line of NE Douglas Parkway.
108. NE Westgate Drive from the north line of NE Douglas Parkway to the north
City limits.
109. NE Douglas Parkway from the west line of NE Alice’s Road to the west City
limits.
110. NW 20th Street from the north line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6)
to the north City limits.
111. 20th Street from the south line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the north line of University Avenue.
112. 11th Street from the south line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the north line of University Avenue.
113. 17th Street from the south line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the north line of University Avenue.
114. 17th Street from the north line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the east line of 20th Street.
115. 10th Street from the north line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the north City limits.
116. 10th Street from the south line of West Hickman Road (U.S. Highway 6) to
the north line of Westown Parkway.
Section 2. Chapter 65, Waukee Municipal Code, Section 65.03, Four-Way Stop Intersections,
is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph to Section 65.03, Four-Way Stop Intersections
as follows:

§65.03 Four-Way Stop Intersections
19. NE Douglas Parkway and NE Westgate Drive.
Section 3. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of
this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. Severability Clause. If any section, provision or part of this ordinance shall be
adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the ordinance
as a whole or any section, provision, or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.
Section 5. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect upon its final passage, approval
and publication as provided by law.
