CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION
MEETING DATE: October 6, 2025
AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a motion setting October 20, 2025, as the
date of public hearing on an ordinance granting MidAmerican Energy
Company, its successors and assigns, the right and franchise to acquire,
construct, erect, maintain and operate in the City of Waukee, Iowa,
natural gas system facilities and to furnish and sell natural gas to the City
and its inhabitants for a period of 25 years pursuant to Iowa Code
Section 364.2 (2025)
FORMAT:Motion
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: At a special election earlier this year, the residents of
Waukee voted to approve for the sale of the Waukee Municipal Gas
Utility. The City has reached an agreement with the Mid American
Energy for the sale of the utility which is scheduled to occur on October
22, 2025. As a part of the sale, the City must grant a franchise agreement
to spell out certain terms for MidAmerican Energy Company to provide
and furnish natural gas and associated system facilities within the city
limits of the City of Waukee.
