AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution authorizing 2025 Tree City USA
Application [Waukee Parks & Recreation Department]
FORMAT:Consent
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The application to be a Tree City USA Community has
been completed. As part of this application, if approved, the City will be
responsible for spending a minimum of $2 per capita annually on trees. The
per capita number will be based on the most recent census. The dollar amount
includes anything the City spends related to trees, including labor, on City
property. The Parks & Recreation Department will work with other City
departments and building sites to track expenses and submit the application
annually.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $2 per capita on trees annually

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Approve the resolution.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 2025-
AUTHORIZING 2025 TREE CITY USA APPLICATION
[WAUKEE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee wishes to become a Tree City USA Community; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department has completed an application on
behalf of the City with the Arbor Day Foundation.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that it
authorizes the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department to submit an application to be
considered as a Tree City USA Community, and authorizing the mayor to sign the application
on behalf of the City of Waukee.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved this 1st day of
December, 2025.
