SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON:The City Council has prioritized the renovation of the
former Police/Fire Headquarters located at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway after completion of the new
Public Safety Building completed in 2025. The former building continues to include a fire station
which will be renovated along with renovated space to allow the Community Development
Department to be housed within this facility.
Due to lead time, the project will be bid in two phases with the first phase consisting of the exterior
glass and glazing. The remaining project is expected to be bid in March 2026. It is anticipated that
the fully renovated building will be completed in December 2026.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
CITY OF WAUKEE – WAUKEE EXISTING FIRE/POLICE BUILDING RENOVATION
1300 SE LA GRANT PARKWAY

The City Council of Waukee, Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the proposed Plans,
Specifications, Form of Contract and Estimate of Costs for the construction of the above
referenced public improvements at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the Council
Chamber in City Hall, 230 West Hickman Road, Waukee, Iowa 50263. At said hearing, any
interested person may appear and file objections thereto or to the cost of the improvements.
This project includes the furnishing of all labor, equipment, and materials for the Early Bid
Package #01: Exterior Glass & Glazing that will be part of the larger renovation of the Existing
Waukee Fire/Police Building at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway in Waukee. The balance of the
renovation scope of work will be bid at a later date as a separate bid effort. The overall project is
generally described as follows:
Renovation of the Existing Waukee Fire/Police Building including all materials, labor
and equipment necessary for installation of approximately:The City of Waukee is
planning to renovate their existing Police and Fire Department Building to more closely
align with the overall operation and design concept implemented at the new Waukee
Public Safety Facility. The existing facility is approximately 25,000 SF. The Fire
Department occupies the south portion of the building. The north portion of the building
formerly occupied by the Police Department will be renovated for the City of Waukee’s
Community Development group. A comprehensive renovation of the office and living
space is planned including updates to the apparatus bays and doors and repurposing
portions of the apparatus bays for fitness and turnout gear areas. Other areas of the
building to be updated include the front entry and shared lobby area, as well as outdoor
areas. Improvement and repairs are included for exterior areas of masonry, gutters and
downspouts and site paving. The majority of the mechanical and electrical systems are
anticipated to be updated to service the new functions and layout.
In accordance with Iowa Code Sections 21.4(1)(b) and 21.8, this meeting of the Waukee City
Council will be conducted with two different options for public participation: 1) Members of the
public wishing to attend in person may do so in the Council Chambers at Waukee City Hall. 2)
