AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving Iowa Municipalities
Workers’ Compensation Association (IMWCA) Criteria for Fire Departments
Agreement
FORMAT:Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: IMWCA is requiring covered municipalities to comply
with their fire fighter medical physical examinations policy. The IMWCA
policy includes pre-employment and the frequency of ongoing medical
physicals. The policy also requires a written respiratory protection program.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The Waukee fire department
meets or exceeds the requirements of the IMWCA policy. The cost of initial
and on-going medical physicals is already included in the operating budget of
the fire/EMS department.
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends approval.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 2026-
APPROVING IOWA MUNICIPALITIES WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
ASSOCIATION (IMWCA) CRITERIA FOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS
AGREEMENT
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas
County; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee’s workers’ compensation carrier, Iowa Municipalities
Workers’ Compensation Association (IMWCA), requires certain provisions for
firefighter medical physicals and a written respiratory protection program; AND,
WHEREAS, IMWCA requires the city to acknowledge compliance with the policy,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in
session this 19th day of January, 2026, that it hereby approves the Iowa Municipalities
Workers’ Compensation Association (IMWCA) Criteria for Fire Departments
Agreement.
