PROCLAMATION
ARBOR DAY 2026
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, in 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture set aside a special day for the
planting of trees; AND,
WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more
than a million trees in Nebraska; AND,
WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; AND,
WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut
heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life-giving
oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee celebrates the importance of having a diverse tree
population and subsidizes the cost of trees by 50% for the citizens through the Waukee
Canopy Program; AND,
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee partners with the Waukee Community School District’s
students to plant trees and learn about the importance of trees in our parks; AND,
WHEREAS, trees in our community increase property values, enhance the economic
vitality of business areas, and beautify our community.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Courtney Clarke, Mayor of Waukee,
Iowa, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 24, 2026, as Arbor Day in the City of Waukee, and
I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees, and to
continue to increase the tree canopy.
FURTHERMORE, I urge all citizens to plant trees and to promote the well-being of this
and future generations.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto
subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City
of Waukee to be affixed this April 6, 2026.
