HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-05-04 G01 Public Safety Building Renovation Project, Bid Package #13_PHAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: May 4, 2026 AGENDA ITEM:Public Hearing on Approving Plans, Specifications, Form of Contract and Estimate of Cost [Waukee Public Safety Building Renovation Project, Bid Packages #13] FORMAT:Public Hearing SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON:The City building located at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway was used as the joint police and fire station until the new Public Safety Building was completed and opened in July 2025. The Fire Department continues to utilize the south half of the building at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway as a second fire station. Following a comprehensive assessment of the building as well as review of staffing plans and space needs plans for the rest of the organization, it was determined to proceed forward with a major renovation of the building at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway for purposes of improving the overall systems within the building, repairing deferred maintenance on the exterior of the building and facilitating additional office space for the Community Development Department which is currently housed in leased space and is inadequate for the needs of the department. The City previously held a public hearing on Bid Packages #2-#12 on April 6, 2026. No bids were submitted for Package #13 at the time and Bid Package #13 was rebid on its own on April 23, 2026. Notice of Public Hearing PREPARED BY:Brad Deets, City Administrator REVIEWED BY: PUBLIC NOTICE INFORMATION – NAME OF PUBLICATION: Dallas County News DATE OF PUBLICATION: 4/23/2026 G1 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CITY OF WAUKEE – WAUKEE EXISTING FIRE/POLICE BUILDING RENOVATION 1300 SE LA GRANT PARKWAY WAUKEE, IOWA 50263 OPN NO. 25821000 The City Council of Waukee, Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the proposed Plans, Specifications, Form of Contract and Estimate of Costs for the construction of the above referenced public improvements at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026 at the Council Chamber in City Hall, 230 West Hickman Road, Waukee, Iowa 50263. At said hearing, any interested person may appear and file objections thereto or to the cost of the improvements. This project includes the furnishing of all labor, equipment, and materials for the Bid Package #13 for renovation of the Existing Waukee Fire/Police Building at 1300 SE LA Grant Parkway in Waukee. Bid Package #01 through #12 were previously bid and have or will be awarded. The overall project is generally described as follows: Renovation of the Existing Waukee Fire/Police Building including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately:The City of Waukee is planning to renovate their existing Police and Fire Department Building to more closely align with the overall operation and design concept implemented at the new Waukee Public Safety Facility. The existing facility is approximately 25,000 SF. The Fire Department occupies the south portion of the building. The north portion of the building formerly occupied by the Police Department will be renovated for the City of Waukee’s Community Development group. A comprehensive renovation of the office and living space is planned including updates to the apparatus bays and doors and repurposing portions of the apparatus bays for fitness and turnout gear areas. Other areas of the building to be updated include the front entry and shared lobby area, as well as outdoor areas. Improvement and repairs are included for exterior areas of masonry, gutters and downspouts and site paving. The majority of the mechanical and electrical systems are anticipated to be updated to service the new functions and layout.
