FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:City Clerk Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: I1F1 THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 2026- APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE CITY OF WAUKEE 2026 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal Organization; AND, WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department requests the following temporary closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the Independence Day Celebration: Parade – Saturday, July 4, 2026; beginning 8:30 a.m. and ending with the parade is concluded: SE Westown Parkway from SE Florence Drive west approximately 1,165 feet; SE University Avenue from SE Florence Drive west approximately 1,040 feet; SE L.A. Grant Parkway from SE Tallgrass Lane north to SE University Avenue; SE Ashworth Drive north and west approximately 2,140 feet Fireworks Display – Saturday, July 4, 2026; beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m./ “rain date” temporary closing of the same said streets at the same said times on Sunday, July 5, 2026: SE University Avenue from S. Warrior Lane east to SE Waddell Way and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue north to SE Park Road; AND, WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 4th day of May, 2026, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for the City of Waukee Independence Day Celebration. ____________________________ Courtney Clarke, Mayor Attest: ___________________________________ Rebecca D.
