AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the temporary
closing of certain portions of public streets for the 2026 Farmers Market
(Partial Season)
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Due to street improvements planned in the
vicinity of Triangle Park in 2026, the Farmers Market is only able to use
the park and adjacent streets for the first half of their season.
For the second half of their season, the Downtown Business Association
requests the closure of 5th Street from Maple Street south and west to
Ashworth Drive between the hours of 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays
from August 5 to September 30.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and
grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 2026-
APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PORTIONS OF PUBLIC
STREETS FOR THE 2026 FARMERS MARKET (PARTIAL SEASON)
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee Downtown Business Association sponsors and administers the Waukee
Farmers Market, an annual event that takes place in the Triangle Park area within the Downtown
Triangle Business District; AND,
WHEREAS, on March 16, 2026, the Waukee City Council approved the use of Triangle Park and
specific temporary public street closures for the first part of the Waukee Farmers Market Season (June
3-July 29) (Resolution #2026-098); AND,
WHEREAS, due to public improvement projects scheduled for construction in and around the
Triangle Park area beginning in August 2026, the Waukee Downtown Business Association requests
the temporary closure of certain public streets for the second part of the Waukee Farmers Market
season (August 5-September 30); AND,
WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by
resolution.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 15th
day of June, 2026, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of 5th Street from Maple Street south
and west to Ashworth Drive between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. each Wednesday from
August 5, 2026, to September 30, 2026, for the purpose of the Farmers Market.
