to Iowa Signal, Inc., for the SE L.A Grant Parkway & SE Esker Ridge
Drive Traffic Signal Project, increasing the contract in the amount of
$1,400.00
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Change Order No. 1 adds a Re-route Fiber Conduit
item to the original contract. This change is necessary as the proposed location for the mast arm
pole in the NW corner of the intersection was in conflict with the Waukee Community School
District fiber optic conduit that runs north-south on the west side of SE LA Grant Pkwy. It was
not possible to adjust the location of the mast arm pole to avoid the conflict due to insufficient
space between the fiber conduit and the storm sewer encased in concrete in that corner.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The net result of this
Change Order increases the contract price in the amount of $1,400.00.

Dear Mr. Koester:
Change order #1 adds a “Reroute Fiber Conduit” item to the original contract. This change is
necessary because the proposed location for the mast arm pole in the NW corner of the intersection
was in conflict with the Waukee Community School District fiber optic conduit that runs north-
south on the west side of SE LA Grant Pkwy. It was not possible to adjust the location of the mast
arm pole to avoid the conflict due to insufficient space between the fiber conduit and the storm
sewer encased in concrete in that corner.
Attached is change order #1 for the project. This change order increases the original contract
amount of $235,174.21 by $1,400.00. The resulting new contract amount is $236,574.21. We
recommend approving this change order to amend the original contract as shown in the attached
change order form.

This change is necessary because the existing storm sewer west of the mast arm pole in the NW corner of the intersection is encased in a
large amount of concrete which is in conflict with the proposed location of the mast arm pole. There is not sufficent space for a signal pole
footing between the edge of the encased storm sewer and the existing City/Waukee Schools fiber conduit. The fiber conduit will be
exposed and shifted east to provide space for the signal footing.
Add item "Reroute Fiber Conduit". Item includes excavating existing City/Waukee Schools fiber conduit in NW corner of intersection and
shifting it east to provide space for mast arm pole footing.
