AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 222.5,WAUKEE MUNICIPAL CODE,
BUILDING CODE REGULATIONS AND PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS ORDINANCE OF
THE CITY OF WAUKEE,lOW A,AMENDMENTS,MODIFICATIONS,ADDITIONS AND
DELETIONS TO THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE,BY ADDING AS SECTION 222.5(D)
CERTAIN SPECIFIC LANGUAGE ALLOWING FOR THE USE OF PEX TUBING WITH
CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Waukee:
Section 1.Section 222.5,Waukee Municipal Code,Building Code Regulations and
Penalties for Violations Ordinance of the City of Waukee,Iowa,Amendments,Modifications,
Additions and Deletions to the Uniform Plumbing Code,is hereby amended by adding the
following as Section 222.5(D):
"D.PEX cross-link polyethylene is approved for water distribution within the City
of Waukee with the following restrictions:
1.PEX is not approved for water service lines,so from the main to the meter
the material is required to be copper,when it is 2"diameter or smaller.
2.The material is listed to be in conformance with ASTM F 876-97,ASTM
F 877-96a,or ASTM F 1281-98 and properly identified to demonstrate the
appropriate listing.
3.All fittings shall be the metal insert or metal compression style
manufactured for use with ASTM F 1961-99d or ASTM F 1974-99 and
properly identified to demonstrate the appropriate listing.
4.PEX tubing shall not be installed within the first eighteen (18)inches of
piping connecting to a water heater and/or water meter."
Section 2.Repealer.All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions
of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3.Severability Clause.If any section,provision or part of this ordinance shall
be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional,such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the
ordinance as a whole or any section,provision,or part thereof not adjudged invalid or
unconstitutional.
Section 4.Effective Date.TIns ordinance shall be in effect upon its final passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
