RESOLUTION 02-81
APPROVING A REAFFIRMATION TO FOLLOW THE OPEN MEETINGS
LAW
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WA UKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,city staff inadvertently failed to properly notice a meeting scheduled by the
Dallas County Board of Supervisors and the consultant finn of Rafferty Group to which
council,staff and interested citizens were invited;AND,
WHEREAS,the State Code ofIowa states that all meetings,which are gatherings or
could possibly be gatherings of a maj ority of the council,formal or informal,where there
could occur deliberation or action upon any matter within the scope of the governmental
body's policy-making duties must be publicly noticed at least 24 hours in advance unless
there is good cause to meet on less than 24 hours notice;AND,
WHEREAS,there was no intent by city staff to circumvent the purposes of Chapter 21
in the failure to notice the above mentioned meeting AND,
WHEREAS,council activity will be more visible and more varied in the years to come,
city staffwill endeavor to publicly notice any and all meetings where more than two
council members may gather to discuss issues related to city policy.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in
session this 6'h day of May,2002 that it hereby approves and reaffirms the City's intent to
follow the Open Meetings Law,Iowa Code Chapter 21.
