RESOLUTION 03-100 I
APPROVING LETTER OF INTENT FOR THE MUNICIP AL WATER SYSTEM JOINT
WATER TOWER PROJECT WITH CITY OF WEST DES MOINES
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee needs additional water storage in the eastern and southern
areas of the City;AND,
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee proposes that the City pay semi-annually its proportionate
share of the principal and interest and other costs directly associated with a bond issue and would
wish to retire its share of the debt service in a period of less than 20 years and preferably 10 or
12 years;AND,J
WHEREAS,the City of West Des Moines is constructing a water tower with a storage capacity
of two million gallons on one of the two sites in eastern or southeastern Waukee at an elevation
which would provide the same water pressure as currently exists in the central part of Waukee;
AND,
WHEREAS,the City of West Des Moines is interested in sharing the cost of construction and in
sharing the 1,000,000 gallon storage capacity not used by WDM with Clive (500,000 gallons)
and Waukee (500,000);AND,
WHEREAS,Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.,engineers for the City of Waukee and City staff support
participating in the joint water tower project with WDM and Clive.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
21st day of April 2003 that it hereby approves a Letter ofIntent for the Municipal Water System
Joint Water Tower Project with City of West Des Moines.
