RESOLUTION 04-142 ]
APPROVING VEENSTRA &KIMM,INC.AS ENGINEERS FOR THE UNIVERSITY
AVENUE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT,WACO TO ALICE'S ROAD
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.have presented the City of Waukee with an Agreement for
the University Avenue Reconstruction Project,Waco to Alice's Road;AND,
WHEREAS,the scope of the project includes the following:
The City desires to widen University Avenue on both the north side
and south side to continue the previous widening proj ect of University
Avenue east of Waco.The project will include new Portland cement
concrete pavement with integral curb and gutter widening of the
existing slab,spot repairs to the existing slab,a raised concrete
median,storm sewer and intakes,stub roadway connection for
proposed Joe Brick Road,16-inch water main stub under University
Avenue at Alice's Road,street lighting along the Project including
alternative pole designs for the City's consideration,grading only for
sidewalks,and associated work.The design will not include traffic
signals except at Alice's Road.
The City also desire to modify and incorporate the previous University
Avenue and Alice's Road Intersection Desigu into the overall Project.
The scope and extent of the improvements may be modified during the
course of the design as necessary to be compatible with the City'S
financing program;AND,

WHEREAS,Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.shall undertake Design Surveys,hold design conferences
and report to the council,prepare plans and specifications,estimate the cost,secure right-of-way,
advertise for bids,assist with bid opening and awarding of contract,conduct a preconstruction
conference,provide general services during construction and provide a [mal review;AND,
WHEREAS,compensation for these services shall be as follows:
a.The fee for design surveys,easements,design conferences,plans and specifications,
modification to the Alice's Road and University Avenue plans,estimate of cost and bidding
services for the project shall be based on standard hourly rates and not to exceed Forty-Two
Thousand Dollars ($42,000);
b.The fee for preconstruction conference,general services during construction,and final
review for the Project shall be based on standard hourly rates and not to exceed Ten Thousand
Dollars ($10,000)for the project including the reconstruction of Alice's Road and University
avenue Intersection;AND,
WHEREAS,above-stated fees do not include compensation for certain items such as borings or
sampling pits,changes due to City requests,services associated with right-of-way acquisition,
construction staking,condemnation proceedings,or assessment plats and schedules,services

associated with soil or groundwater pollution testing and abatement and services associated with
historical/archaeological investigations;AND,
WHEREAS,City staff have reviewed and approve the agreement as presented.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
21 st day of June 2004 that it hereby approves designating of Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.as the
engineers for the University Avenue Reconstruction Project,Waco to Alice's Road.
