RESOLUTION 04-187 1
Approving Wankee's REAP Grant Application
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WA UKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the provision of parks and open spaces is an essential function of city
government;AND,
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee's population is increasing rapidly;AND,
WHEREAS,The cost of land in the city is increasing,making park acquisition more
difficult;AND,
WHEREAS,The potential abandonment of the Union Pacific rail line offers an excellent
opportunity to enhance the City's trail system;AND,
WHEREAS,Dallas County Conservation Director Mike Wallace has encouraged cities
to apply for REAP funds to aid in rail conversion;AND,
WHEREAS,the Resource Enhancement and Protection grant program administered by
the Iowa DNR provides money for the acquisition and development of park ground and
open space.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in
session this 4th day of August,2004 that it hereby supports the City of Waukee's REAP
application.
