HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-02-17-Resolutions 04-33_IA State Legislature - Request Against Cuts in AidTHE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA RESOLUTION 04-33 APPROVING A REQUEST OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO REFRAIN FROM MAKING ADDITIONAL CUTS IN STATE AID TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA WHEREAS,last year,the Iowa Legislature voted to cut state aid to the City of Waukee by $49,600,a 3%budget cut after the budget was certified as required by law before March 15, 2003;AND, WHEREAS,this sudden cut in state aid negatively affected the people of the City of Waukee; AND, 'WHEREAS,additional cuts in state aid to local governments in this legislative session or any session in the future will negatively impact the core responsibilities of the City of Waukee; AND, WHEREAS,those core responsibilities affected would be (1)public safety,police and fire protection,(2)public library and (3)parks and recreation. JNOWTHEREFOREBEITRESOLVEDbytheCityofWaukeeCityCouncilinsessionthis lih day of February 2004 that it hereby approves requesting the State Legislature refrain from making additional cuts in state aid to local governments, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THEREBY that the State Legislature: (1)maintain the state's commitment to fund property tax credits at the $160 million level for the current year; (2)increase the state's commitment to fund property tax credits by gradually increasing the level offunding so that the approximately $20 million shortfall would be eradicated by FY2025; (3)defeat HSB617,which repeals Iowa Code Section 25B.7;AND (4)support and enact SF2008 and HSF 2029 restoring distribution of $8.8 million in bank franchise fees to cities and counties.
