HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-05-19-Resolutions 08-109_Mowing - Use of Private ContractorsTHE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA RESOLUTION 08-109 APPROVING THE USE OF PRIVATE CONTRACTORS FOR MOWING SERVICES IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORiTY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State ofIowa,is a duly organized Municipal Organization;AND, WHEREAS,Waukee Municipal Code Section 401.4(B)provides that if weed or grasses greater than twelve (12)inches on the average are not abated,the City may,after affording reasonable notice to the property owner,cause the weeds or grasses greater than twelve (12)inches on the average to be mowed by the City and the costs assessed and/or otherwise collected from the property owner;AND, WHEREAS,in enforcing compliance with the Waukee Municipal Code,as it pertains to mowing of weeds and grasses greater than twelve (12)inches on the average,the City expends a significant amount of time and resources in order to abate the nuisance and the use of private contractors will be more cost efficient in abating the nuisance created by property owners non-compliance with existing law;AND, WHEREAS,City staff recommends the use of private contractors for mowing services related to non-compliant properties,when so determined by the City Administrator,with the following rates charged to property owners per property: •$50.00 per hour,with a one-hour minimum charge;plus •$45.00 administrative fee; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 19th day of May,2008,that it hereby approves the use of private contractors for mowing services associated with weeds and grasses greater than twelve (12)inches on the average,as determined by the City in accordance with existing ordinances,at the above referenced rate schedule and the collection of said costs in the form of assessments or otherwise against non-compliant properties and/or property owners.
