RESOLUTION 09-250
RECOGNIZING THE SERVICE OF DONALD L.BAILEY,JR.TO THE CITY OF WAUKEE
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,Donald L.Bailey,Jr.has served as a Waukee City Council Member from November 1989 to
December 1995,then as Mayor from Jauuary 1996 to December 2001,and again as City Council Member
from January 2002 to December 2009;AND,
WHEREAS,with a 1990 population of 2,512 growing to a projected 2010 population of over 12,000
residents,Don has been instrumental in leading Waukee through an unprecedented era of growth;AND,
WHEREAS,during Don's tenure as a City elected official,he has helped to advance a remarkable number
of significant projects,including the widening of Highway 6 and University Avenue,the redevelopment of
portions of the Downtown Business District and Triangle Park area,construction of the Public Safety
Bnilding and Public Library,the relocation of City Hall,and the purchase of Sugar Creek Municipal Golf
Course,and the planning and solicitation of funding for the Alice's Road/105th Street Interstate 80
Interchange and Alice's Road Corridor;AND,
WHEREAS,Don's selfless actions on the City Council over the last twenty years clearly demonstrate that
his concern has always,first and foremost,been the welfare of Waukee residents,especially its senior
citizens;AND,
WHEREAS,without the love and support of his wife Gretchen,their children and grandchildren,Don
would not have been able to dedicate so much of his time to the betterment of the community;AND,
WHEREAS,Don's twenty years of service as an elected official say more about his dedication to and
passion for the City of Waukee than any words could possibly hope to do;
NOW THEREFORE be it resolved by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 21"day of
December 2009 that it hereby approves the expression of appreciation to Donald L.Bailey,r.,for service
to the citizens of Waukee.
