RESOLUTION NO.05-195
RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF TALIA LEMAN IN HER EFFORTS TO
ASSIST THOSE LEFT HOMELESS BY HURRICANE KATRINA
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,a hurricane is defined in Webster's New College Dictionary as a cyclone with winds
exceeding approximately 74 miles per hour,originating in the tropical regions ofthe Atlantic Ocean or
the Caribbean Sea,traveling north,northwest,or northeast from its point of origination,and usually
producing heavy rain;AND,
WHEREAS,according to Willie Drye for National Geographic News,Katrina,a Category Four
hurricane with 140 mile-an-hour winds and a storm surge nearly two stories tall,came ashore early the
morning of August 29,2005 at the mouth of the Mississippi River near New Orleans;AND,
WHEREAS,the devastation,homelessness,the lack of food,water,medical care,the loss of the
feeling of being secure,the wondering and the pain and the suffering ofthose directly affected by the
force and strength of a Category Four hurricane has been seen,heard,and felt by all of us;but by some
more than others;AND,
WHEREAS,this proclatnation is about a young ten year old girl,who was not only suffering for those
directly in the path of Katrina;but was also thinking of what could be done for all those who still are of
and from New Orleans;AND,
WHEREAS,Talia Leman,who observed a group of children selling lemonade to raise money for the
victims of Hurricane Katrina,realized that there had to be a better way to raise frmds than waiting for
cars to stop on a busy street to buy lemonade;AND,
WHEREAS,this young girl,very creatively,realized that Halloween,the eve of All Saints,would be
the perfect time to ask for a quarter donation from each and every household;AND,
WHEREAS,this idea from someone so young,who had probably never been told that one person
really can't make a big difference in the world today,has grown and blossomed into a world wide
movement of children helping others less fortunate than themselves one quarter at a time.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 17'h
day of October 2005 that it hereby celebrates the accomplishments of Talia Leman and her family in
striving to be better than we are and in helping all of us to realize that one person can still make a
difference in this world of today.

APPROVING CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
FOR WILLIAMS POINTE PLAT 5
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,McAninch Inc.has completed the improvements on Williams Pointe Plat 5 for Regency
Homes;AND,
WHEREAS,City Engineering Technician Brad Freeman reviewed the improvements on Williams
Pointe Plat 5 on October 10,2005;AND,
WHEREAS,Mr.Freeman confirmed that said improvements constructed as a part ofthis project are
in general conformance with the Standard Specifications of the City of Waukee.I
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 17th
day of October 2005 that it hereby approves the Certificate of Completion for the Williams Pointe Plat
5.
