RESOLUTION 05-140
APPROVING THE DESIGNATION OF VEENSTRA &KIMM,INC.AS THE DESIGN
ENGINEERS FOR LIMITED IMPROVEMENT FOR THE CULVERT CROSSING
UNDER LITTLE WALNUT CREEK DRIVE
IN THE NAME /LiVDBY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,at the request of Public Works,Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.(V &K)on September 13,
2004 investigated the three 72-inch CMP culverts of Little Walnut Creek under Little Walnut
Creek Drive in Sahu Acres;AND,
WHEREAS,from that investigation V &K recommended three different repair options which are
summarized here:
Option 2,
Option 3
Option 4

Eight barrels,10'X 10'RCB culverts
32'X 90'bridge
$45,000
$532,000
$400,000;AND,
WHEREAS,this project -unexpected and potentially expensive -can be remedied for all but
the largest rain storms by plugging the existing culvert and adding an 84-inch RCP (Option 2);
AND,
WHEREAS,City staff are recommending designating Veenstra &Kimm,Inc.as the design
engineers for this proj ect with the understanding that Option 2 will be pursued until or unless
funds become available for a more extensive improvement.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
Ist day of August 2005 that it hereby approves Veenstra &Kimm,Inc,as design engineers for
limited improvement for the culvert crossing under Little Walnut Creek Drive.
