RESOLUTION 06-33
SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING PROPOSED STATE LEGISLATION TO
PROHIBIT IOWA LOTTERY "TOUCHPLA Y"MACHINES
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORJTYOF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,in November 2004,voters in the City of Waukee rejected a casino gambling
referendum by a substantial margin;AND,
WHEREAS,against the wishes of the majority of voters in Waukee,the State ofIowa has
recently permitted the installation ofIowa Lottery "Touchl'lay"machines,which in appearance
resemble video slot machines,at businesses within Waukee city limits;AND,
WHEREAS,the City Council of Waukee is concerned that the wishes of the voters in our
community have been disregarded through State government's having allowed "Touchl'lay"
machines to be installed within Waukee city limits;AND,
WHEREAS,the City Council of Waukee is opposed to the proliferation ofIowa Lottery
"TouchPlay"machines within Waukee city limits.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Waukee City Council in session this 6th day
of March 2006 that it hereby calls upon the Iowa General Assembly to enact legislation that
prohibits Iowa Lottery "TouchPlay"machines from being located within our community,with
all existing machines removed from our community.
