RESOLUTION 10-258
APPROVING MONETARY CONTRIBUTION TOWARD THE
SHULER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PUBLIC ART PROJECT
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County;
AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee Community School District and the City of Clive Public Arts
Advisory Commission (PAAC)have been working jointly to raise funds to purchase a public art
piece to memorialize the Shuler Mining comrnunity and its history;AND,
WHEREAS,such public art would be installed at the newly constructed Shuler Elementary
School in Clive;AND,
WHEREAS,of the original $65,000 ftmdraising goal for this project,the City of Clive as
accepted $56,350 to date in donations and grant awards,including $21,100 in private donations,
$9,000 from the Dallas County Foundation,$5,000 from the City of Clive,and $21,250 from the
Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs;AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council recognizes that the Shuler Mining community represents
an important piece of Waukee history,and that such history should be preserved in order to
enlighten and educate future generations;AND,
WHEREAS,City staff recommends that any contribution be allocated from the FY20ll
Administration Promotional account.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
20lh day of September 2010 that it hereby approves a contribution of $5,0.00 toward the Shuler
Elementary School Public Ali Project.
