Home My WebLink About2012-02-27-Resolutions 12-40_Mayor-Council-Staff Roles Report - ReaffirmTHE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA RESOLUTION 12-40 REAPPROVING AND REAFFIRMING THE MAYOR-COUNCIL-STAFF ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REPORT DATED APRIL 21,2010 IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State ofIowa,is a duly organized Municipal Organization;AND, WHEREAS,on April 21,2010,the Waukee City Council took part in a work session meeting facilitated by Jeff Schott of the Institute of Public Affairs,University ofIowa;AND, WHEREAS,the intent of the work session meeting was to discuss roles and responsibilities of the mayor,city council members and key staff at local,regional,state and federal levels;AND, WHEREAS,as a result of the work session meeting discussion,the Institute of Public Affairs has provided a Mayor-Council-StaffRoles and Responsibilities Report,attached hereto as Exhibit A which was previously approved by the Mayor and Council in resolution 10-141 on May 17th,2010;AND, WHEREAS,the Mayor and Council have assessed whether there is a need to conduct a further work session to discuss the Roles and responsibilities ofthe Mayor,Council and Staff and believe that the report adequately addresses those issues and continues to reflect the structure of the same. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this February 27th,2012 that the Mayor-Council-StaffRo1es and Responsibilities R O1i dated April 21,2010,is hereby reaffirmed and re-approved. Facilitated by: Jeff Schott Institute of Public Affairs University of Iowa 1 CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA MAYOR-COUNCIL-STAFF ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 2010 Introduction The City of Waukee requested the Institute of Public Affairs (IF A)to assist the city with the issue of defining the roles and responsibilities ofthe mayor,city council and key staff.IF A agreed to organize and facilitate a process that involved the following steps: 1.Review and discussion of the "many hats"of mayors and council 2.Defining roles and responsibilities in specific arenas: a.Local Leadership Team b.City Organization c.Citizens d.Community Leadership Organizations e.Regional f.S tate/Federal 3.Preparation of this report.
