PROCLAMATION
(Resolution No.04-179)
HONORING KEITH ARMSTRONG,FlRE PREVENTION OFFICER WITH THE
WAUKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND RECIPIENT OF THE 2004 GOVERNOR'S
AWARD FOR FIRE PREVENTION OFFICER OF THE YEAR
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the State of Iowa annually recognizes a fire prevention officer who has made a
significant contribution to the prevention of fire in the State ofIowa;AND,
WHEREAS,Keith received the honor of being named Iowa Prevention Officer of the Year as a
result of his many fire prevention programs,which have provided an exceptionally effective
contribution in the area of fire prevention;AND,
WHEREAS,Keith Armstrong has been a member of the Waukee Fire Department for 10 years and
has served as the department's fire prevention officer for 9 of those years;AND,
WHEREAS,Keith,along with other firefighters,has conducted school visits during Fire
Prevention Week and has taught fire safety and has given station tours throughout the year;AND,
WHEREAS,four years ago,Keith acquired an assistant to draw attention to the fire department's
public education efforts,who has made his job much easier and much more exciting;AND,
WHEREAS,this assistant was purchased by Keith,named "Scout"by an elementary student,and
given a badge to'wear on his collar as an official member of the Fire Department;AND,
WHEREAS,Keith and Scout,inseparable in their efforts to educate our children about fire safety,
host children's birthday parties;participate in local Cub Scout functions,other special events,
parades,the Fire Department Open House;host and maintain the waukeefiredog.com website;and
answer e-mail questions from visitors to the website two or three times per week;AND,
WHERJ<:AS,Keith accomplishes all of these acts and tasks on his own time;taking vacation hours,
using week-end and evening hours.He is the consummate volunteer for the City of Waukee.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 2nd
day of August 2004 that it hereby recognizes and honors Keith Armstrong,2004 Fire Prevention
Officer of the Year,for his years and many hours of service to our community above and beyond
what is required of him as a firefighter.
