RESOLUTION 15-417
APPROVING 2016 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
IN THE NAMEAND BY THEAUTHORITYOF THE CITYOF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State of Iowa,is a duly organized Municipal
Organization;AND,
WHEREAS,the City has an interest in several important issues that will be considered by the 2016
Iowa state legislature;AND,
WHEREAS,these issues impact the City's ability to meet the needs of a growing community and to
operate efficiently,AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council establishes the following 2016 legislative priorities:
I.Allow cities to diversify their revenues through the establishment of a local option sales tax
through the use of a city-wide referendum (potential uses for property tax relief,public safety,
park development)
2.Ensure that the commercial and industrial property taxes are backfilled each year
3.Preserve the tools that give the City the ability to manage growth,e.g.urban renewal,
annexation
4.Maintain State of Iowa funding sources for local infrastructure projects,e.g.RISE,trails grants,
Community Attraction and Tourism,State Revolving Loan Fund (RLF)
5.Preserve the ability for the City to make decisions at a local level that is consistent with the
spirit of Home Rule
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 7'"day
of December,2015,that it hereby approves the 2016 legislative priorities.
