JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: IT Administrator Reports to: Technology Services Director
Dept/Div: Technology Services Direct Reports: None
Pay Grade: N33 FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: The IT Administrator is responsible for the daily management and administration of the
City’s IT infrastructure; including the acquisition and maintenance of computers, network
devices, software and applications, print/copy and peripherals. Responsible for the asset
management system, ensuring accuracy of information and the IT service management
system, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responsible for configuring, coordinating and maintaining support for City’s IT infrastructure.
2. Participates in the selection and oversight of IT consultants, contractors, and vendors; coordinates and
collaborates on support cases to ensure timely resolution and appropriate set-up, configuration, and
connectivity for a variety of applications and assigned IT projects.
3. Coordinates and collaborates with Sr. Administrator to implement and maintain IT infrastructure
4. Assesses and provides recommendations regarding organization’s current and future technology needs,
procures, and implements IT equipment, and maintains inventory accuracy.
5. Anticipates and takes pro-active steps to prevent potential problems and manages capacity of end-user
computing equipment.
6. Assists in the creation, administration and enforcement of general IT policies and procedures.
7. Creates, maintains, and ensures up-to-date documentation of all of IT infrastructure. Manages a wide
range of hardware warranties, software licensing and disposition of equipment.
8. Consults and escalates technical issues and assists in providing desktop support for applications to end
users as needed.
9. Promotes and actively engages with City departments to assess, evaluate, and enhance processes,
procedures, and technology to meet ongoing and future IT needs.
10. Provides end-user trainings and functions as a technical mentor to all City staff.
11. Provides off-hour support as needed and assists in planned or unplanned system outages.
12. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

11. Attentive to the City’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City policies and
procedures ensuring all work performed meets those standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate degree in network administration or a closely related field from an accredited college or
technical school and field-related certifications (Aruba ACSP/Cisco CCNP, MCSE, Security+/CASP+, or
other industry equivalents) OR Bachelor’s degree in network administration or a closely related field from
an accredited college or technical school.
2. Combination of 3 years of work experience managing an enterprise network, system, and infrastructure.
Experience supporting enterprise environment with working knowledge of the following: Windows OS,
enterprise domain services, such as Active Directory, GPO, DFS, VMWare and Hyper-V hypervisors,
and others.
Basic understanding of networking is required.
3. Practical experience in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes and/or change
management process is preferred.
4. Must possess a valid driver license and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy.
5. Access to transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business throughout the
assigned area.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, staff,
developers, contractors, colleagues, elected officials, and the general public.
2. Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
3. Able to maneuver under furniture and in tight spaces to complete installs and to troubleshoot.
4. Able to function productively in a standard office environment accessing cabinets, shelving, work areas
and office equipment.
5. Able to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects on a computer screen.
6. Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using
electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses, and community
members.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Climate controlled office with hazards typical to that environment.
2. Occasional outdoor work may be required.
3. Position requires travel within and outside of the City, which imposes common travel hazards.
4. Standard work hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM with additional hours including days,
evenings, overnights, and weekends as required. Due to the nature of this role, flexibility will be given to
standard working hours.
