Walnut Creek North Trunk Sewer – Phase 1 and Water Main Extensions]

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The construction of the Walnut Creek North Trunk
Sewer Phase 1 and Water Main Extension project includes all materials, labor and equipment
necessary for approximately 3,400 linear feet of 2-inch through 12-inch diameter water main
directional bored in place and in open cut, 2,930 linear feet of 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer in
open cut, 240 linear feet of 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer augured in steel casing, hydrants,
valves, manholes, excavation and backfill, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work,
including cleanup.
The City received bids on January 13, 2021 with six (6) contractors submitting bids. Priority
Excavating, LLC of Clive, Iowa submitted the low bid in the amount of $1,427,080.00, which is
approximately 10% below the engineer’s estimate of $1,577,770.00.
This project is included in the proposed FY 2022 Capital Improvements Plan to be considered for
approved by City Council in March 2021 with a total project budget of $2,104,000.00. This
project has a completion date of June 30, 2021.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $1,427,080.00
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to Priority
Excavating, LLC in the amount of $1,427,080.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE LITTLE WALNUT CREEK NORTH
TRUNK SEWER - PHASE 1 AND WATER MAIN EXTENSIONS
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Little Walnut Creek North Trunk Sewer - Phase 1 and Water Main
Extensions, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on January
18, 2021, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received
for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Priority Excavating, LLC, of Clive, IA
Amount of bid: $1,427,080.00
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.

RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD CONTRACT
The City of Waukee received bids until 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 for the
Little Walnut Creek North Trunk Sewer – Phase 1 and Water Main Extensions project. A
total of six bids were received as follows:

The apparent low bid was submitted by Priority Excavating, LLC of Clive, Iowa in the
amount of $1,427,080.00.
We recommend the City of Waukee award the contract for the Little Walnut Creek North
Trunk Sewer – Phase1 and Water Main Extensions project to Priority Excavating, LLC in the
amount of $1,427,080.00.
The Engineer’s Estimate of cost for the project was $1,577,770.00.
