SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Job description for a Digital Marketing Specialist within
the Waukee Library Department has been created at the library pay grade of
L8.

STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: The City Administrator, Library Director and Human
Resource Director recommend the approval of the job description and pay
grade.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

APPROVING JOB DESCRIPTION AND PAY GRADE
[DIGITAL MARKETING SPECIALIST, LIBRARY DEPARTMENT]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the Library Director proposes the creation of a non-represented, Digital Marketing
Specialist; AND,
WHEREAS, the Digital Marketing Specialist replaces the Communication & Digital Initiatives
Librarian position; AND,
WHEREAS, the pay grade for the position shall be L8; AND,
WHEREAS, the Library Director and Human Resource Director recommend establishing the
position and approving the job description and pay grade.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa on
this 18th day of January 2021 that it hereby approves the job description and pay grade for Digital
Marketing Specialist, Library Department.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Digital Marketing Specialist (FT) Reports to: Library Director
Dept/Div: Library Direct Reports: None
Union Status: Non-Union FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade: L8
JOB PURPOSE: The Digital Marketing Specialist will manage the ongoing development and
implementation of the library’s communications, including the website, mobile site,
social media platforms, print publications, and signage to inform various audiences
of library information and news.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)
1. Works with the Library Director and implements a strategic vision and implementation plan for the
library’s digital content and collections, website, social media, and communications.
2. Creates, manages, and maintains digital content for the library website, social media, and other
web-based platforms.
3. Promotes library programs, services, resources, and events both online and in print formats
(posters, bookmarks, calendars, newsletters, fliers, print mailings, library signage, brochures and
media, etc.) to engage patrons and create awareness of the library.
4. Appropriately responds to or shares patron feedback and comments in a timely manner.
5. Develops and executes targeted email marketing and social media campaigns to library
patrons and the community.
6. Prepares written communications for publication highlighting the library.
7. Works collaboratively with other library staff on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
8. Uses brand standards and guidelines to develop and maintain a consistent visual style
across all projects.
9. Monitors and analyzes digital marketing metrics to track success and prepare reports.
10. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

5. Deep understanding of professional social media platforms, strategies, and trends.

and participates in opportunities for continuing education and professional growth.
7. Demonstrates sound time-management skills by effectively and efficiently organizing,
prioritizing, and completing multiple assignments in a timely manner.
8. Understands and internalizes the importance of seeking resolution to problems and concerns
by bringing them to the direct attention of supervisor in a timely manner.
9. Attentive to the City’s and Library’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency
and all City and Library policies and procedures.
10. Represents the City professionally and effectively to the community and library patrons.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, or closely related field.
2. 2 years experience in a professional digital marketing role.

3. Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, and website content management.
4. Experience with targeted marketing campaigns both online and in print.
5. Experience with photo and video editing.
6. Excellent written communication, copyediting, and proofreading skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Required to move or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
2. Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or
detailed paperwork.
3. Be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using
electronic and handwritten) in English with other employees, library patrons, and the community.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Climate-controlled library with hazards typical of that environment, minimal outdoor work is required.
2. Standard work hours. Occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
3. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard
work hours within Waukee Public Library building.
4. There is no residency requirement for this position.
