Area Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2 Project]

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Southwest Area Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2
project will be located south of Ashworth Road and east of U Place.
The project is for the construction of the Southwest Area Trunk Sewer Extension – Phase 2
including all labor, materials and equipment necessary for 3,800 linear feet of 8-inch through 24-
inch diameter sanitary sewer in open cut, manholes, excavation and backfill, surface restoration
and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.
The City received bids on February 23, 2021 with nine contractors submitting bids. The
engineer’s estimate of cost was $1,036,760.00.
Evolution Contracting, LLC has withdrawn their apparent low bid, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc.
recommends awarding the contract to the next lowest bidder, J&K Contracting, LLC, in the
amount of $806,306.00
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $806,306.00
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to J&K
Contracting, LLC in the amount of $806,306.00
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE SOUTHWEST AREA TRUNK SEWER
EXTENSION - PHASE 2
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Southwest Area Trunk Sewer Extension - Phase 2, described in the
plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on March 1, 2021, be and is hereby
accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: J&K Contracting, LLC, of Urbandale, IA
Amount of bid: $806,306.00
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.

SOUTHWEST AREA TRUNK SEWER EXTENSION – PHASE 2
RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD CONTRACT
The City of Waukee received bids until 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 for the
Southwest Area Trunk Sewer Extension – Phase 2 project. The City of Waukee has accepted the
request from Evolution Contracting, LLC to withdraw their apparent low bid. We recommend
the City of Waukee award the contract for the Southwest Area Trunk Sewer Extension – Phase 2
project to the next lowest bidder, J&K Contracting, LLC, in the amount of $806,306.00.
