AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of Change Order No. 6 to Elder Corporation
for the Waukee Public Library Stormwater Improvements increasing the
contract amount by $28,169.00.
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Change Order No. 6 is for interpretive signage and
landscape planting bed renovation. The majority of the change order is
for interpretive signage which will be installed in both the interior and
exterior of the building to highlight the stormwater BMPs installed on
the site. The interpretive signage was a part of the $100,000 IDALS WQI
grant funding the project received. The remaining change order is for
rehabilitating an existing planter bed adjacent to the building.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: The net result of this
Change Order increases the contract price in the amount of $28,169.00.

Please find attached Change Order #6 for the Waukee Public Library Stormwater Improvements. The
change order includes the following items:
· Interpretive Signage
· Landscape Planting Bed Renovation
The interpretive signage elements will assist in communication of the water quality needs, goals, and
functions of the newly-installed stormwater best management practices (BMPs) to library visitors.
Funding for interpretive signage for the project was applied for and awarded as part of the Iowa
Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship Water Quality Initiative – Urban Conservation
Demonstration Project grant program.
Current plantings have become overgrown in the existing raised planting bed integral to the building
north of the main entrance. It has been determined that it will be advantageous to complete a
renovation of this planting bed now while a landscape contractor is onsite for the bioretention cell
plantings.
We have reviewed the change order items and unit prices, both are line with anticipated amounts. If
City staff concurs with this change, we recommend the City of Waukee approve this change order in the
amount of $28,169.00 to the construction contract for the Waukee Public Library Stormwater
Improvements with Elder Corporation of Pleasant Hill, IA.

THE CONTRACT IS CHANGED AS FOLLOWS:
Change Order Items CO-6.1, CO-6.2, and CO-6.3 are to add interpretive signage fabrication and installation to the project. Exterior Stormwater Best Management
Practice (BMP) marker signs, an interior graphic sign panel, and window graphic decals will be installed. A Water Quality Initiative - Urban Conservation
Demonstration Project grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship was applied for and awarded to this project, and a portion of the
grant funding received is to be directed toward signage and interpretation. These interpretive elements being added to the project to assist in communication of
the water quality needs, goals, and function of the installed BMPs to library visitors.
Change Order Items CO-6.4 and CO-6.88A are to add renovation of an existing planting bed to the project. At the existing raised planter integral to the building
wall north of the main entrance, existing vegetation and soils will be removed and new filtration planting soil, plantings, and mulch will be installed.
