FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Iowa Code §364.12(2)(a) states that public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: I1F THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 2021- APPROVING THE TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CERTAIN PUBLIC STREETS FOR THE CITY OF WAUKEE CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department requests the following temporary closures of specific public streets for activities associated with the Celebration of Independence: Parade – Saturday, July 3, 2021: The temporary closing of the westbound lanes of SE Westown Parkway from the South Middle School northern entrance west to SE L.A. Grant Parkway; the northbound lanes of SE L.A. Grant Parkway from SE Westown Parkway north to SE University Avenue; the northbound lanes of SE Ashworth Drive north and west from SE University Avenue to the Waukee Middle School northern entrance, where the parade participants will disburse, beginning 10:00 a.m. and ending when the parade is concluded. Fireworks Display – Sunday, July 4, 2021: The temporary closing of SE University Avenue from S. Warrior Lane east to SE Waddell Way and S. Warrior Lane from SE University Avenue north to SE Park Road beginning 8:30 p.m. and ending 10:30 p.m.; with a “rain date” temporary closing of the same said streets at the same said times on Monday, July 5, 2021; AND, WHEREAS, pursuant to §364.12(2)(a), public ways and grounds may be temporarily closed by resolution; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 17th day of May, 2021, that it hereby approves the temporary closing of certain public streets for the City of Waukee Celebration of Independence. ____________________________ Courtney Clarke, Mayor Attest: ___________________________________ Rebecca D.
