Home My WebLink About2021-06-07-I03B Transite Water Main Replacement Phase 2_Award ContractAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: June 7, 2021 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution awarding contract [Transite Water Main Extension – Phase 2] FORMAT:Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The construction of the Transite Water Main Replacement Phase 2 includes all materials, labor and equipment necessary for approximately 2,185 linear feet of 8-inch water main directional bored in place, water service pipe, hydrants, valves, surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup. The City received bids on June 1, 2021 with eight (8) contractors submitting bids. Busy Bee Construction, LLC of Lewistown, MO submitted the low bid in the amount of $445,134.28, which is approximately 18% under the engineer’s estimate of $544,395.00. This project is included in the approved FY 2022 Capital Improvements Plan approved by City Council in March 2021 with a total project budget of $450,000. Staff anticipate increasing the project budget to $518,000 to align with the apparent low bid received. This project has a completion date of May 31, 2022. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $445,134.28 COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to Busy Bee Construction, LLC in the amount of $445,134.28. Resolution PREPARED BY:Beth Richardson REVIEWED BY: Rudy Koester RK I3B RESOLUTION 2021- RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE TRANSITE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT - PHASE 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the Transite Water Main Replacement - Phase 2, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on June 7, 2021, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows: Contractor: Busy Bee Construction, LLC, of Lewistown, MO Amount of bid: $445,134.28 Portion of project: All construction work Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the City until approved by this Council. A total of eight bids corrected for arithmetic were received as follows: Contractor Total Bid Busy Bee Construction, LLC $445,134.28 KLC Construction, LLC $525,080.00 Lawson Construction LLC $539,705.00 Keller Excavating, Inc. $539,950.00 Beckstrom Construction Inc. $597,205.00 J&K Contracting, LLC $616,871.00 Synergy Contracting, LLC $636,035.00 Spring Lake Construction, LLC $703,999.00 The apparent low bid was submitted by Busy Bee Construction, LLC of Lewistown, Missouri in the amount of $445,134.28. We recommend the City of Waukee award the contract for the Transite Water Main Replacement – Phase 2 project to Busy Bee Construction, LLC in the amount of $445,134.28.
