HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-06-21-H05B 2021 Well Rehabilitation Phase 2_Award ContractAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: June 21, 2021 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution awarding contract [2021 Well Rehabilitation Phase 2 Project] FORMAT:Resolution SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project consists of the construction of the 2021 Well Rehabilitation Project – Phase 2 including all labor, materials and equipment necessary for excavation, backfill and sitework, well work including pump, control valve, pitless adapter, discharge column and monitoring well; concrete and granular surfacing; reinforced concrete; wood stud building construction; building work including plumbing, heating and ventilation, doors, painting, chemical feed equipment, miscellaneous equipment, piping and piping appurtenances; electrical work including conduit, cables, power wiring, motor controls and housings, starters, fixtures and controls; laboratory casework; water main and sanitary sewer in open cut and directional bored in place; manholes; conduit extension; surface restoration and miscellaneous associated work including cleanup. The City received bids on June 15, 2021 with two (2) contractors submitting bids. C.L. Carroll Co., Inc. of Des Moines, IA, submitted the low bid in the amount of $1,605,111.00 which is approximately 25% under the engineer’s estimate of $2,127,375.00. This project is included in the approved FY 2022 Capital Improvements Plan approved by City Council in March 2021 with a total project budget of $3,900,000. This project has an interim completion date of January 29, 2022 and a final completion date of June 4, 2022. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $1,605,111.00 COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends awarding the project to C.L. Carroll Co., Inc. in the amount of $1,605,111.28. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Letter of Recommendation II. Bid Tab III. Resolution PREPARED BY:Beth Richardson REVIEWED BY: Rudy Koester RK H5B RESOLUTION 2021- RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE 2021 WELL REHABILITATION PROJECT - PHASE 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE OF IOWA: Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements described in general as the 2021 Well Rehabilitation Project - Phase 2, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on June 21, 2021, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows: Contractor: C.L. Carroll Co., Inc., of Des Moines, IA Amount of bid: $1,605,111.00 Portion of project: All construction work Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the City until approved by this Council.
