SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on August 25, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. Four (5) bids were received with the
low bid submitted by Larson Construction, LLC, in the amount of
$16,306,000.00. The bid form included seven add alternates and four
deduct alternates. Staff is recommending that if approved that the City
of Waukee declines add alternate No. 3: Fishing Pier. Staff is
recommending that the City Council accepts alternates No. #1, #2, #4,
#5, #6, #11. Staff is not recommending acceptance of any of the Deduct
Alternates.

RESOLUTION 2020-
RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE TRIUMPH PARK
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Triumph Park, described in the plans and specifications heretofore
adopted by this Council on August 17, 2020, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest
responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Larson Construction Company, Inc., of Independence, IA
Amount of bid: $18,866,000.00
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 8th day of September, 2020.

RE: Summary of Bid Opening
Triumph Park, Project No. 17393
Dear Mr. Jermier:
Five bids were received on August 25, 2020 for the Triumph Park project. All bids were under the
Opinion of Probable Cost. The low bid submitted by Larson Construction LLC is deemed responsive. It
is our recommendation to accept this bid as well as all of the Add Alternates and none of the deduct
alternates, with the exception of Add Alternate #3, which is the fishing pier. The Fishing Pier bid was
higher than the engineers estimate and will not be accepted. The recommended contract for the Base
Bid and Add Alternates 1,2,4,5,6, and 11 totals $18,866,000.00. (Eighteen Million Eight Hundred and
Sixty-six thousand Dollars).
Therefore, we are recommending award of the contract to Larson Construction, LLC.
