AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of Change Order No. 1 to RW Excavating
Solutions, for the Sugar Creek Golf Course Water Supply Project increases
the contract in the amount of $24,270.00.
FORMAT:Consent Agenda
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Change Order No. 1 to RW Excavating Solutions in the
amount of $24,270.00. During the pond excavation the material being
dredged was determined to be unsuitable for disposal onsite as planned during
the design process, and was recommend to be disposed of offsite. The
original intent of the design was to mix the dredge spoils with the other
excavated soils and place in the proposed berm at the end of the driving range.
Duet to the amount of dredge spoils, silt material which does not support
shaping due to a lack of cohesion between soil particles, there was not enough
competent soil to mix the spoils with. After evaluation, it was decided that if
the original design approach was followed, the berm would not be able to
support golf course operation at project completion. Change Order No. 1
includes the cost for removing the dredge spoils, disposing the material offsite
and for the cost of maintaining the truck route on/off the golf course.
Representative from Bolten & Menk and City Staff have reviewed the
quantities and find them to be accurate.

RE: Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course Water Supply Project - Change Order 1
Dear Mr. Jermier:
Submitted for your approval is Change Order 1. During the pond excavation at the Sugar Creek
Municipal Golf Course, the material being dredged was determined to be unsuitable for disposal onsite as
planned during the design process, and should be disposed of offsite. The original intent of the design
was to mix the dredge spoils with the other excavated soils and placed in the proposed berm. Due to the
amount of dredge spoils, silt material which does not support shaping due to a lack of cohesion between
soil particles, there was not enough competent soil to mix the spoils with. After evaluation, it was
decided that if the original design approach was followed, the berm would not be able to support golf
course operations at project completion. It was determined that the dredge spoils would be disposed at an
area at the public works facility north of the golf course using road legal dump trucks.
Change Order #1 includes the cost for removing the dredge spoils, disposing the material offsite and for
the cost of maintaining the truck route on/off the golf course. The original contract value of $135,805.00
will be increased by $24,270.00 to a new contract value of $160,075.00. Please see the Change Order 1
for a full summary of the additional items.
It is anticipated that the total cost of the construction contract will be less than the revised contract amount
as approved with this change order, approximately $15,000 due to underrunning of other contract line
items. The exact amount of the deductions will be made at project closeout, and included in the final
contract closeout change order.
Bolton & Menk, Inc. recommends the approval of Change Order 1. Please let me know if you have any
