HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-03-04-J01G Employee Insurance Coverage IncreaseAGENDA ITEM: J1G CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: March 4, 2019 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution amending City of Waukee employee benefits [Life and AD&D Insurance Coverage] FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Following a review of current benefits offered by the City to its employees, City staff recommends an increase in life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance coverage for full-time employees from $20,000 to $50,000. The change would be effective July 1, 2019. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: Fiscal impact would be $5,054.40 annually. COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff recommends approval of the employee benefits amendment. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:Michelle Lindsay REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 19- AMENDING CITY OF WAUKEE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS [LIFE AND AD&D INSURANCE COVERAGE] IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal Organization; AND, WHEREAS, following a review of employee benefits, the City Administrator and Human Resource Director recommend increasing City-provided life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage for all full-time employees from $20,000 to $50,000; AND, WHEREAS, the insurance coverage amendment shall go into effect July 1, 2019; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this 4th day of March, 2019, that the life and AD&D insurance coverage increase for all full-time employees is hereby approved and shall go into effect July 1, 2019. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the insurance coverage increase for full-time employees covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), Local #7102, AFL-CIO, shall also go into effect July 1, 2019, pending approval of a Memorandum of Understanding. ____________________________ William F.
