SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. Five (5) apparent bids were
received, with the low bid submitted by Caliber Concrete of Adair, IA, in
the amount of $88,548.11.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$88,548.11
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Caliber
Concrete of Adair, IA, in the amount of $88,548.11.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution awarding contract to Caliber Concrete of
Adair, IA, in the amount of $88,548.11.

RESOLUTION 19-
RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE HEART OF WARRIOR TRAIL
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, STATE
OF IOWA:
Section 1.That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Heart of Warrior Trail, described in the plans and specifications
heretofore adopted by this Council on May 6, 2019, be and is hereby accepted, the same being
the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Caliber Concrete of Adair, IA
Amount of bid: $88,548.11
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2.That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 6th day of May, 2019.

Dear Ms. Becky Schuett:
At 2:00 p.m. on May 1, 2019 bids were received for the Heart of Warrior Trail project. The Engineer’s Estimate for
the base bid of the project was $79,386.00. Five bids were received, all bidders were responsive, and bids for base
bid are summarized as follows:

Concrete Professionals Altoona, IA $88,795.70
Howrey Construction Rockwell City, IA $95,893.00
TK Concrete Pella, IA $100,900.00
The bid received from Caliber Concrete was 11.5% above the engineers estimate for the project, and was determined
to be the lowest responsive, responsible bidder. Bolton & Menk, Inc. has reviewed the bid documents submitted
and checked references on this bidder, and was satisfied with responses given.
Therefore, Bolton & Menk, Inc. recommends award of the Heart of Warrior Trail project to Caliber Concrete, for the
bid amount of $88,548.11 (Eighty-Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Forty-Eight Dollars and Eleven Cents).
The bid tabulation is attached for your use.
