HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-06-03-J01I CITSTF 28E AgrAGENDA ITEM: J1I CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: June 3, 2019 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving a 28E Agreement between Central Iowa Law Enforcement Agencies for Traffic Enforcement (Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force) FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The Waukee Police Department recommends approval by the Council to officially join the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force (CITSTF). The Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force (CITSTF) is a consortium of Polk and Dallas County law enforcement agencies partnering with each other to address identified, data driven crash and driver behavior problem areas across Polk and Dallas counties. They are a model for multi-jurisdictional enforcement efforts across the region. The Task Force coordinates nearly 20 events per year, focusing on Iowa’s major contributors to death and serious injury including occupant protection compliance, impaired driving and speed. In 2009, Polk County was the second leading county in Iowa in terms of fatality reductions from 2008, boasting 11 fewer traffic deaths, and experiencing their lowest fatality year in more than a decade. Agencies participating: • Ankeny Police Department • Altoona Police Department • Clive Police Department • Dallas County Sheriff’s Office • Des Moines Police Department • Iowa DOT Enforcement • Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau • Iowa DNR Parks • Iowa DPH Bureau of EMS • Iowa Law Enforcement Academy • Iowa National Guard • Iowa State Patrol • Johnston Police Department • Pleasant Hill Police Department • Polk City Police Department • Polk County Sheriff’s Office • Urbandale Police Department • Waukee Police Department • West Des Moines Police Department • Windsor Heights Police Department. Proposed Resolution II.28E Agreement PREPARED BY:Police Chief John Quinn REVIEWED BY: THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 19- APPROVING CHAPTER 28E AGREEMENT BETWEEN CENTRAL IOWA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES FOR TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT (CENTRAL IOWA TRAFFIC SAFETY TASK FORCE) WHEREAS, the City of Waukee (the “City") desires to execute an Agreement pursuant to Chapter 28E, Iowa Code, to join the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force (CITSTF), which is a consortium of Polk and Dallas County law enforcement agencies partnering with each other to address identified, data driven crash and driver behavior problem areas across both counties. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA: That the City approves the 28E Agreement between Central Iowa Law Enforcement Agencies for Traffic Enforcement (Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force); and the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Agreement on behalf of the City.
