Proclamation PREPARED BY:Becky Schuett REVIEWED BY: G1 THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA PROCLAMATION IN RECOGNITION OF THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF WAUKEE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, in 2020,Waukee United Methodist Church, one of the oldest churches in the community, will celebrate its 150th anniversary; AND, WHEREAS, the congregation began very humbly in 1869, holding services in the Des Moines Valley Railroad depot; AND, WHEREAS, in 1870, the church was chartered and received its first full-time minister, Archibold H. Murphy; AND, WHEREAS, services continued to be held over the years at various locations in the community until an unfinished church building was purchased in 1877, with construction completed and the building dedicated on April 28, 1878, as the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Waukee; AND, WHEREAS, now named Waukee United Methodist Church, the congregation broke ground in 1977 on an adjoining lot for the building it calls home today and a new church campus is planned along SE L.A. Grant Parkway to address current and anticipated congregational growth and development; AND, WHEREAS, the members of the Waukee United Methodist church are proud to offer a caring Christian environment where they serve God, their church and the community; AND, WHEREAS, Waukee United Methodist Church continues its long tradition of faith, family and fellowship through initiatives like Change a Child’s Story and the Quilting Team; partnerships with Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry, Dallas County Community Closet and Trinity United Methodist Church of Des Moines; groups such as the Waukee United Methodist Women; and missions such as Joyful Noise Preschool and Childcare and The Table, a free community dinner. NOW THEREFORE, I, William F. Peard, Mayor of Waukee, do hereby congratulate Waukee United Methodist Church on 150 years of ministry and service in the community. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto subscribed my name and caused the Great Seal of the City of Waukee to be affixed this October 7, 2019. ________________________________ William F. Peard, Mayor
