AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution allowing for Temporary
Parking Area [Home Solutions of Iowa]
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Staff has received a request from Home Solutions of
Iowa related to the need for temporary parking on the property they are
acquiring located at 1225 SE Laurel Street (NW corner of SE Laurel
Street and SE Brick Drive). The company is currently located at 16180
SE Laurel Street, however, the company has rapidly grown since moving
in and they are in need of a temporary solution for the storage of vehicles
associated with the business.
The company’s intent is to proceed forward with the construction of a
new headquarters on the property located at 1225 SE Laurel Street as
soon as rezoning of the property and approval of a site plan is complete.
In the interim, they have requested that the City Council consider a
request for them to park vehicles on the property.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff is supportive of the proposed request on a
temporary basis not to exceed six months. This is a similar to a request
that was granted to Stiver’s a couple of years ago.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution

APPROVING TEMPORARY PARKING REQUEST AT 1225 SE LAUREL STREET
[HOME SOLUTIONS OF IOWA]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized
Municipal Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, Home Solutions of Iowa is currently located at 16180 SE Laurel Street and their
business has rapidly expanded since moving in; AND,
WHEREAS, Home Solutions of Iowa has recently purchased property located at 1225 SE
Laurel Street with the intent to construct a new headquarters; AND,
WHEREAS, the owners of Home Solutions of Iowa request permission to temporarily store
vehicles associated with the business on the undeveloped property located at 1225 SE Laurel
Street for a period not to exceed six (6) months.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session
this 18th day of November, 2019, that it hereby approves temporary parking on the property
located at 1225 SE Laurel Street for a period not to exceed six months.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved this the 18th day of
November, 2019.

Waukee City Council,
Home Solutions of Iowa (HSI) is a locally owned company with its headquarters based in Waukee (16180 SE
Laurel Street, Waukee). HSI has recently outgrown its headquarters and is in the process of developing a new
headquarters across the street at 1225 SE Laurel St, Waukee to help create a long -term solution to this
problem. The new headquarters is in the beginning stages of being developed. If all goes as planned,
construction will start in the spring. In the short term, HSI is in need of a place to park their vehicles when
they are not in use. Although the land isn’t zoned for this use, we are asking that the Waukee City Council be
kind enough to allow HSI to park their vehicles on this land until their headquarte rs is completed. HSI is
investing in the Waukee community for the long run and look forward to growing along with Waukee.
