SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on March 28, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. One (1) apparent bid was received from
Van Maanen Electric, Inc., of Newton, IA, in the amount of $171,911.95.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$171,911.95
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Van
Maanen Electric, Inc., of Newton, IA, in the amount of $171,911.95.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution awarding contract to Van Maanen Electric,
Inc., of Newton, IA, in the amount of $171,911.95.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE NE ALICE'S ROAD JOINT UTILITY
TRENCH
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the NE Alice's Road Joint Utility Trench, described in the plans and
specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on April 2, 2018, be and is hereby accepted, the
same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Van Maanen Electric, Inc., of Newton, IA
Amount of bid: $171,911.95
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 2nd day of April, 2018.

Dear Mr. Gibson:
The Bid Letting for the referenced Project was held on March 28, 2018 and bids were received from a
total of one (1) bidder. A summary of the bids is as follows:

Van Maanen Electric, Inc. Newton, IA $171,911.95
Our Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost for the Total Bid Amount for this project was $181,107.50.
Attached please find a detailed Tabulation of Bids for your information.
We have reviewed the lowest responsive bid and bid attachments and everything appears to be in order.
It is recommended that the City of Waukee award contract for this work to Van Maanen Electric Inc., of
Newton, Iowa in the amount of $171,911.95. Appropriate contract documents have been prepared for
signatures and forwarded to the Contractor for City Council award on April 2, 2018.
