HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-07-02-J01I Public Works Positions_Additions, EliminationsAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: July 2, 2018 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the addition or elimination of certain employment positions [Waukee Public Works Department] FORMAT:Consent Agenda SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The organizational structures for departments within the City of Waukee must evolve to meet the needs of the growing city. The positions of Assistant Public Works Director – Engineering and Assistant Public Works Director – Operations have been in place since January 2017. The Assistant Directors have the responsibility of supervising staff in their respective divisions. Upon review of the positions of Senior Engineering Technician, Stormwater Coordinator and Maintenance Mechanic, it has been determined that functions of supervision and coordination listed in these job descriptions are the responsibility of the Assistant Public Works Directors and are no longer being performed by the individuals in the named positions. FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: It is the recommendation of the Public Works Director and Human Resource Director that the positions of Senior Engineering Technician, Stormwater Coordinator and Maintenance Mechanic be eliminated. It is further recommended that an additional position of Equipment Services Technician be added for a total of two; that an additional position of Stormwater Inspector be added for a total of three; and that an additional position of Engineering Technician be added for a total of three. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution. ATTACHMENTS: I. Proposed Resolution PREPARED BY:Patricia Brown Holden REVIEWED BY: J1I THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA RESOLUTION 17- APPROVING THE ADDITION OR ELIMINATION OF CERTAIN EMPLOYMENT POSITIONS [WAUKEE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT] IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal Organization; AND, WHEREAS, the Assistant Public Works Director – Engineering and Assistant Public Works Director – Operations have the responsibility of supervising staff in their respective divisions; AND, WHEREAS, upon review of the Public Works Department positions of Senior Engineering Technician, Stormwater Coordinator and Maintenance Mechanic, it has been determined that functions of supervision and coordination listed in these job descriptions are the responsibility of the Assistant Public Works Directors and are no longer being performed by the individuals in the named positions; AND, WHEREAS, the Public Works Director and Human Resource Director recommend that the positions of Senior Engineering Technician, Stormwater Coordinator and Maintenance Mechanic be eliminated; AND, WHEREAS, it is further recommended that one (1) additional position of Equipment Services Technician be added for a total of two (2); one (1) additional position of Stormwater Inspector be added for a total of three (3); and one (1) additional position of Engineering Technician be added for a total of three (3). NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa on this 19th day of September, 2016, that it hereby approves the additional or elimination of certain Public Works Department positions as specified above. ____________________________ William F.
