SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on July 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. One (1) bid was received from Iowa
Signal, Inc., of Grimes, IA, in the amount of $351,395.65.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$351,395.65
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Iowa
Signal, Inc., of Grimes, IA, in the amount of $351,395.65.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution awarding contract to Iowa Signal, Inc., of
Grimes, IA, in the amount of $351,395.65.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE TRAFFIC SIGNALIZATION
HICKMAN ROAD (US 6) 1300-FT WEST OF ALICE'S ROAD
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Traffic Signalization Hickman Road (US 6) 1300-FT West of Alice's
Road, described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on July 23,
2018, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received
for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Iowa Signal, Inc., of Grimes, IA
Amount of bid: $351,395.65
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 23rd day of July, 2018.

RE: Recommendation of Award of Contract
Traffic Signalization
Hickman Road (US 6) 1300-FT West of Alice’s Road
Dear Mr. Gibson:
The Bid Letting for the referenced Project was held on July 17, 2018 and bids were received from a total
of one (1) bidder. A summary of the bids is as follows:

Iowa Signal, Inc. Grimes, IA $351,395.65
Our Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Cost for the Total Bid Amount for this project was $350,176.00.
Attached please find a detailed Tabulation of Bids for your information.
We have reviewed the lowest responsive bid and bid attachments and everything appears to be in order.
Iowa Signal has 13 years of experience working on various traffic signal and fiber projects within the
State of Iowa and their unit prices are in line with current market pricing. Due to only one bid being
received, other potential bidders on the plan holder’s list were contacted and they did not submit a bid due
to availability of labor to deliver the project within the required completion date. If City staff agrees, it is
recommended that the City of Waukee award contract for this work to Iowa Signal Inc., of Grimes, Iowa
in the amount of $351,395.65. Appropriate contract documents have been prepared for signatures and
forwarded to the Contractor for City Council award on July 23, 2018.
