No. 3 Rehabilitation Phase 1 Project, Control Building]

SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: The project bid letting was held at Waukee City Hall
on August 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Two (2) apparent bids were received,
with the low bid submitted by Synergy Contracting of Bondurant, IA, in
the amount of $406,000.00.
The Engineer’s Estimate of cost for the construction of the project was
$320,000.00. The reasons for the difference between the estimate and
low bid are due to the contractor including a contingency backup plan to
prevent sewer backups into adjacent residences during construction, a
wide swing of electrical subcontractor quotes and an increase to the
control building price due to additional electrical equipment being added
during final design of the project.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:$406,000.00
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: City staff recommends awarding contract to Synergy
Contracting of Bondurant, IA, in the amount of $406,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution awarding contract to Synergy Contracting of
Bondurant, IA, in the amount of $406,000.00.

RESOLUTION MAKING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACT FOR THE LIFT STATION NO. 3
REHABILITATION PHASE 1 - CONTROL BUILDING
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,
STATE OF IOWA:
Section 1. That the following bid for the construction of certain public improvements
described in general as the Lift Station No. 3 Rehabilitation Phase 1 - Control Building,
described in the plans and specifications heretofore adopted by this Council on September 4,
2018, be and is hereby accepted, the same being the lowest responsive, responsible bid received
for such work, as follows:
Contractor: Synergy Contracting, LLC, of Bondurant, IA
Amount of bid: $406,000.00
Portion of project: All construction work
Section 2. That the Mayor and Clerk are hereby directed to execute the contract with the
contractor for the construction of the public improvements, such contract not to be binding on the
City until approved by this Council.
