HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-09-17-J06 Elected Official Salaries_3RD READAGENDA ITEM: CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL MEETING COMMUNICATION MEETING DATE: September 17, 2018 AGENDA ITEM:Consideration of approval of an ordinance to amend Chapter 110, Establishing the Salaries of Municipal Officers, by amending Section 110.1, Council Members, and Section 110.2, Mayor [third (final) reading] FORMAT:Ordinance SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS:The salary increases would not go into effect until January 1, 2020 following the next regular city election. COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT: STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff would recommend approval of the third reading of the ordinance. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 110, ESTABLISHING THE SALARIES OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS, BY AMENDING SECTION 110.1, COUNCIL MEMBERS, AND SECTION 110.2, MAYOR, CONCERNING SALARIES BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Waukee: Section 1: Chapter 110, Establishing the Salaries of Municipal Officers, Section 110.1, is amended as follows: §110.1 Council members. The salary of each council member including the Mayor Pro Tem shall be $425.00 per month. Effective January 1, 2020, the salary of each council member including the Mayor Pro Tem shall be $8,000.00 per year. Each calendar year thereafter the compensation amount shall be adjusted equal to the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U, U.S. City Average, all items NSA) for the calendar year immediately preceding the increase in compensation, rounded to the closest $1.00 but in no event less than 1% nor greater than 3%. Section 2: Chapter 110, Establishing the Salaries of Municipal Officers, Section 110.2, is amended as follows: §110.2 Mayor. The mayor shall receive a monthly salary of $575.00 per month. Effective January 1, 2020, the salary of the mayor shall be $14,000.00 per year. Each calendar year thereafter the compensation amount shall be adjusted equal to the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U, U.S. City Average, all items NSA) for the calendar year immediately preceding the increase in compensation, rounded to the closest $1.00 but in no event less than 1% nor greater than 3%. Section 3. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. Severability Clause. If any section, provision or part of this ordinance shall be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole or any section, provisions or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional. Section 5. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect from and after its final passage, approval and publication as provided by law. The increases shall not take effect until January 1, 2020.
