AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of approval of a resolution approving a Professional Consulting
Services Agreement with Shive Hattery [Waukee Signage Implementation
Documents & Alice’s Road Concept Plan]
FORMAT: Resolution
SYNOPSIS INCLUDING PRO & CON: Earlier this year, Shive Hattery completed a visioning plan
for a comprehensive signage package throughout the City of Waukee. The
proposed professional services agreement includes the next phase of work that
is necessary to implement certain signage elements that were completed
during the visioning process. Specifically, the proposed scope includes the
development of site-generic fabrication documents, concept development for
Alice’s Road between University Avenue and Hickman Road and site specific
implementation plans for certain sign elements proposed within the visioning
plan. Finally, the scope include further conceptual refinement of the larger
primary sign that would be appropriate for Hickman Road.
The site specific site plans that are included within the scope include a
primary horizontal sign along University Avenue, a monument sign for City
Hall and a monument sign for the Waukee Dog Park. It is anticipated that all
three of these signs would be constructed in 2019.
FISCAL IMPACT INCLUDING COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS: $77,600.00
COMMISSION/BOARD/COMMITTEE COMMENT:
STAFF REVIEW AND COMMENT: Staff would recommend approval of the contract with Shive
Hattery
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution.

RESOLUTION 18-
APPROVING AGREEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING SERVICES BETWEEN
THE CITY OF WAUKEE AND SHIVE HATTERY [WAUKEE SIGNAGE
IMPLEMENTATION DOCUMENTS & ALICE’S ROAD CONCEPT PLAN]
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Dallas County, State of Iowa, is a duly organized Municipal
Organization; AND,
WHEREAS, the City Council has identified gateway signage as a priority for the current year; AND ,
WHEREAS, the City has previously competed a Gateway, Wayfinding and Community Identity Plan;
AND,
WHEREAS, in order to proceed forward with implementation, additional design services are
necessary; AND,
WHEREAS, the professional services agreement has been reviewed and approved by the Waukee City
Attorney.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee that the
Agreement for Professional Consulting Services between the City of Waukee and Shive Hattery
[Waukee Signage Implementation Documents & Alice’s Road Concept Plan], attached hereto as
Exhibit A, is hereby approved.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee, Iowa, and approved the 5th day of November, 2018.
